HB 2108 education; conforming changes passed House Final Read on a 56-0 vote and is ready for theSenate. This bill makes technical and conforming changes. ASBA is neutral.
HB 2202 schools; dyslexia; handbook; definition (Norgaard) passed House Final Read on a 55-1 vote and is ready for the Senate vote. This bill requires ADE to create and maintain a dyslexia handbook for schools to provide guidance to students, teachers, and parents. ASBA is neutral.
HB 2134 schools; children’s camps; sunscreen (Carter) passed House final read on a 48-9 vote and is ready for the Governor. This bill allows students to possess and use topical sunscreen products without a note or prescription. ASBA is neutral.
HB 2247 school bus drivers; fingerprint cards (Grantham) passed House Final Read on a 57-0 vote and is ready for the Governor. This bill requires individuals who apply for a school bus driver certificate to obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card. Additionally, it gives current certificate holders until December 31, 2018 to obtain their fingerprint clearance cards. ASBA is neutral.
SBE Votes on Final Accountability Plan Monday
The State Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the new A-F accountability formula Monday and we need your help. Please let the State Board of Education know that you support the Ad Hoc Committee’s recommendations. ASBA, along with several education stakeholders, provided critical input to get the model where it is now and we support the Committee’s recommendations as the best plan moving forward.
