Black Alliance

The ASBA Black Alliance is an official group within the Arizona School Boards Association that focuses on the school board’s role in improving opportunities and outcomes for Black students.

The Alliance is strategically aligned to the purpose and priorities of ASBA and provides an important role in informing the association’s work.
The ASBA Black Alliance is an official group within the Arizona School Boards Association that focuses on the school board’s role in improving opportunities and outcomes for Black students through activities that:
  • Enhance understanding of equity in education.
  • Improve service delivery to ASBA members around equity in education.
  • Improve recruitment of leaders who reflect the demographics of their communities.
  • Increase member access to public education allies for underrepresented students.
  • Increase cultural and social competence among public education leaders and partners.
Membership is open to any individual, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture or origin, with a sincere desire to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students in Arizona.

The president of the Black Alliance serves on the ASBA Board of Directors, as well as the ASBA Legislative Committee and ASBA Equity Committee.

Membership

Membership is open to any individual, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture or origin, with a sincere desire to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students in Arizona.

Membership is comprised primarily of school board members, however, superintendents, district staff, community and business allies may also join. There is no fee for membership and individuals may join in one of three classifications

Regular: Currently serving school board members on any ASBA school district member board.

Associate: Administrators, educators and former board members from ASBA member school districts.

Friends of the Alliance: Other individuals who support the purposes and goals of the Alliance, including community and business allies.

Regular membership in the Alliance will continue in perpetuity throughout the member’s consecutive service on an ASBA member school board. All other membership types will be for a one-year period, July 1 through June 30, and must be renewed annually.
