ASBA Annual Awards Program

Recognizing exceptional people and programs in Arizona’s public schools

Each year, the Arizona School Boards Association bestows honors upon school district governing board members, students and at the district level. The awards are presented at the ASBA|ASA Annual Conference. This year’s annual conference will be held December 13-15, 2017, at the Biltmore Conference Center in Phoenix. The ASBA Annual Awards Dinner will be held the evening of Dec. 13, 2017.

ASBA active district members are invited to participate in the Annual Awards Program by submitting nominations or entries in the following categories: Board Awards, Student Awards and District Awards.

Full Board & Board Member Awards

Lou Ella Kleinz Excellence In Governance Award: ASBA’s highest honor for a full board.
Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017
Nomination Form: Closed

All-Arizona School Board Member Award: ASBA’s highest individual board member honor. (Nomination requires board action)
Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017
Nomination Form: Closed

Honor Roll Award: Recognizes board members with at least eight consecutive years of service who are retiring. (Nomination requires board action)
Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017

Full Board & Board Member Awards will be presented on Wed., Dec. 13, 2017, 6:30-8 p.m. at the ASBA Annual Awards Dinner at the ASBA-ASA Annual Conference.

District Awards

Golden Bell Promise Programs Award: Recognizes school programs from throughout the state that have shown outstanding successes in student growth and success. Categories include: Pre-K-8, 9-12, JTED/CTE (new!) & District Community Collaboration (new!)
Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017

District awards will be presented Thurs, Dec. 14, 2017, 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at the Golden Bell Luncheon.

Student Awards

Jack Peterson Student Scholarship: Awarded to high school seniors in member schools who plan to pursue college degrees in education.
Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017
Entry Form: Closed

Panfilo H. Contreras Honorary Scholarship: Awarded by ASBA’s Hispanic-Native American Indian Caucus to two worthy students, one Hispanic and one Native American, to support post-secondary education at an accredited institution.

ASBA Photography Contest: The ASBA Photography Contest recognizes student achievement in black-and-white and color photography. A selection committee chooses the winners, who are recognized at the ASBA-ASA Annual Conference in December.

Participation and Eligibility Requirements

Full Board and Board Member Awards and District Awards
School district governing board membership in the Arizona School Boards Association is required to nominate/apply for an award and to receive an award.

Student Awards
Students must be enrolled in a school district whose governing board is a member of the Arizona School Boards Association.

Online Nomination/Entry
All nominations and entries must be submitted using the online forms, with the exception of the Jack Peterson and Panfilo H. Contreras Scholarships, which may be submitted via the online form or a paper form.
