Let’s celebrate School Board Recognition Month!

January is School Board Recognition Month! Thank you for your extraordinary service to help Arizona students thrive, and your commitment to your local school district and community. Glendale ESD celebrated their board members with a large display of thank you cards from students and staff, signs with their images, and sang “We Are Family” to them.

Chandler USD thanked board members with a large banner and giant posters from students in the schools they serve displayed in the board meeting room. Follow ASBA on Facebook and Twitter as we celebrate school board members and all you do. View ASBA’s resource pages on our website’s Resource Bank. ASBA members have full access to the Resource Bank.

ASBA salary surveys open soon
Look for it in your email inbox and encourage your district to participate

Each year, ASBA conducts annual surveys of certified and administrative personnel as well as superintendents that allow us to provide useful and current information to governing boards and district staff throughout the state. The surveys will open later this month and close February 8. All questions are asked from the perspective of the superintendent and information provided should reflect the current 2022-2023 contract year. All participating districts will receive the full report February 27.
Important: If responses are coordinated from multiple staff members, please be sure to submit only one response from the district to this questionnaire.

Invite your students to apply for ASBA scholarships

Arizona high school seniors who attend classes in an ASBA member district are invited to apply for ASBA scholarships. Students start applying for scholarships on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, and the deadline all three is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023.
The Jack Peterson Scholarship is awarded annually to at least one Arizona high school senior who plans to pursue education as their major course of study at the college/university level. Amounts of the awards vary from year to year and are based on annual earnings from the scholarship endowment. Scholarship amounts typically range from $1,000 to $1,500. The scholarship was established in honor of ASBA Executive Director Jack Peterson, who served the association from 1991 to 1998.
The Panfilo H. Contreras Honorary Scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2013 by ASBA’s Hispanic-Native American Indian Caucus. Hispanic and Native American Indian students are eligible to apply for this scholarship to support their attendance at an accredited post-secondary institution. Last year’s scholarships were $1,000 each.

The Georgie and Calvin Goode Student Scholarship was established by the ASBA Black Alliance in 2021 and was awarded for the first time in Spring 2022. Two scholarships of $1,250 each are available. Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate an exceptional record of academic growth and a commitment to service to others. Applicants must be a currently enrolled senior in an ASBA member district, Black or of African descent and planning to further their education at an accredited postsecondary institution.
