Annual Awards Showcase Celebration

ASBA makes history with new president

Lawrence Robinson, member of the Roosevelt Elementary School District, became the first African American president of the Arizona School Boards Association Board of Directors. This is a milestone and celebration for the association as we continue to cultivate excellence in locally-governed school districts throughout our state.

Robinson has a bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna and went on to go to Law School at New York University. As the 2019 president, his top priority is connecting campuses to communities. “For many communities, our most valuable asset is the local public school. We have to get back to creating ways that tear down walls between communities and campuses so that everyone has the opportunities to succeed across Arizona,” said Robinson.

Look for ways to get involved and help connect your campus to the community throughout this year!

Joining Robinson on the executive committee include Steven Chapman, Tolleson Union High School District as president-elect; Ann O’Brien, Deer Valley Unified School District as treasurer and Linda Lyon, Oracle Elementary School District as immediate past-president.
