ASBA welcomes Nick Buzan as Director of Legal & Policy Services

ASBA is thrilled to announce Nick Buzan as Director of Legal & Policy Services. After nine years, Nick Buzan returns to ASBA to oversee the Legal & Policy Department. Nick Buzan has worked in multiple avenues of public service in some of Arizona’s most beautiful communities.  Nick taught history and geography at Blue Ridge High School in Pinetop/Lakeside before attending law school in Tucson at the University of Arizona.

Nick worked at ASBA as a policy consultant and as a trial attorney trying complex criminal cases at Gila and Coconino Counties. He’s excited to apply his trial attorney skills to advocate for Arizona’s public-school children.

He’s currently on the Coconino County Bar Association’s board and a member of the State Bar’s Council for Persons with Disabilities in the Legal Profession.  He’s worked with at-risk youth at Canyon State Academy, Northern Arizona University, and the YMCA.  As a prosecutor, he worked in juvenile delinquency, therapeutic courts, Grand Jury presentation and trials.

Nick and his wife Angela have two daughters, a lab mix named Scout and a love for Arizona’s great outdoors. Nick and his wife are also certified foster parents. We encourage members to connect with Nick at the next ASBA event and learn more about his passion for public education.

Check your email! Access to the salary and benefit survey data is an exclusive benefit of ASBA membership

Thank you to the member districts that completed the FY22 ASBA Teacher and Administrator Salary and Benefits Survey. (See a complete list below.) The response rate was 53%. All ASBA member districts had the opportunity to complete the survey between Feb. 22 and March 16, 2022. The completers, when viewed as a whole, are representative of Arizona school districts.

The purpose of the ASBA Teacher and Administrator Salary and Benefits Survey is to provide comparative data to school district leaders to use when making decisions related to salaries and benefits for teachers, principals, assistant principals and district-level administrators. All data was self-reported by school districts, using an online collection tool provided by ASBA. Data requested was for the 2021-2022 school year (FY22). Responses to questions 1-3, which asked for name and contact information for the completer, are not included in this document. Responses to questions 67-80 (district-level staff salaries) are provided in table form at the end of this document and include data on county, enrollment and location for each responding district.

Access to the salary and benefit survey data is an exclusive benefit of ASBA membership. Check your email to view the summary report which was sent to all members earlier this week.
