State Board of Education to Set 2017-2018 A-F Cut Scores
The State Board of Education is set to adopt final cut scores for 2017-2018 A-F Letter Grades at its meeting on Monday. The recommendation on the executive summary is to retain the cut scores from 2016-2017. This results in more A schools over 16-17 but also more D and F schools. The second option presented is to adjust the scores to match the new statistical distribution, which results in fewer D and F schools but also fewer A schools. The board’s thinking so far on this is that cut scores are likely going to need to be reset when the menu is introduced for 9-12, and it’s not wise to start a pattern of resetting cut scores each year. Districts should have data in their ADE portal to review for comparison. There will be an appeals window that opens on the public release of letter grades and runs through October 25. Modeling data will be available by Friday. You can find the meeting materials here under item 5A. If you have comments about A-F Letter Grade Cut Scores, email them to email@example.com by 11a Friday for them to be provided to all SBE members prior to Monday’s meeting.

Three new members appointed to ASBAIT board of directors
The Arizona School Boards Association Insurance Trust is excited to announce three new members appointed to serve on their board of directors. Congratulations to Barbara Underwood, board member at Payson Unified School Board District; Karla Soto, chief financial officer at Roosevelt Elementary School District and Dr. Doug Wilson, superintendent at Marana Unified School district.
The Arizona School Boards Association Insurance Trust or ASBAIT was established in 1981 by the Arizona School Board Association. Its formation was in response to Arizona school administrators desire to obtain comprehensive health benefits at reasonable costs. Meeting the needs of employees and their dependents is at the core of ASBAIT’s philosophy. These factors differentiate ASBAIT plans from commercial employee benefit programs making it the number one choice with Arizona schools.
