The Arizona School Boards Association supports and respects the very difficult decisions which have been made and will continue to be made in the coming days and weeks in the face of this public health crisis by the educators and leaders of school districts around the state, all with the health and safety of their students and communities at heart.
Our public school leaders now need assurances that their local decisions, whether to close schools or keep them open, will be supported at the highest levels so their students, families and staff will not suffer severe educational or economic hardships.
On behalf of our member districts, we will continue to relentlessly urge state officials, from the Department of Education, to the Department of Health Services, to the governor and our legislative representatives at the Capitol to communicate with schools frequently and openly. We especially urge state officials to work together, along with business and industry, to coordinate the critical solutions and supports that are needed to mitigate drastic negative impacts on the children we serve. Policy solutions to address economic hardships are an immediate priority.
Beginning Monday, March 16, all ASBA staff will be working from home. Service to members will not be disrupted. Be assured that we will continue to communicate with our membership as the situation evolves and additional information becomes available.
Please continue to look to public health professionals for the latest facts and recommendations to keep you, your loved ones and those you serve safe. You can find information to help your school districts on our dedicated webpage.
