Interested in becoming an officer on the ASBA Board of Directors?

Five officers serve as the executive committee on the ASBA Board of Directors. They are the president, president-elect, treasurer, secretary and immediate past-president. Each position is held for a one-year term. The officers serve on the board alongside 17 county directors and ex officio voting members that include caucus and alliance presidents.

Every year, the President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary are chosen from among our dedicated members during the exhilarating ASBA Annual Meeting. Position Descriptions

President: The President holds the pivotal role of presiding over meetings of the Association, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee. They have the authority to appoint all standing and special committees of the Association, including the Chairperson, and participate in ASBA County Meetings, conferences, and training sessions. Serving as an ex-officio member of all committees (except the Nominating Committee) with voting power, the President also takes on any other duties pertinent to the office.

President-Elect: The President-Elect plays a crucial role in supporting the President, attending meetings of the Association, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee. They actively participate in ASBA County Meetings, conferences, and training sessions as needed. Additionally, they assume the responsibilities of the President in their absence or incapacity and perform other duties pertinent to the office of President-Elect.

Treasurer: As the Treasurer, responsibilities include preparing the Budget Report for presentation to the Board and membership and chairing the ASBA Finance Committee. They regularly report to the Board and provide a report to the membership at the annual business meeting. Like other officers, the Treasurer attends various meetings, County Meetings, conferences, and training sessions while also performing additional duties related to the office.

Secretary: The Secretary is tasked with keeping accurate minutes of all Association, Board of Directors, and Executive Committee meetings, as well as maintaining the records and files of the Association. They attend meetings of the Association, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee, along with participating in ASBA County Meetings, conferences, and training sessions. Additionally, they handle any other duties pertinent to the office of Secretary.

Immediate Past-President: In the role of Immediate Past-President, mentoring the current President and Executive Committee members is a primary focus. They provide valuable counsel to the President and chair the Nominating Committee. Similar to other officers, they attend meetings, County Meetings, conferences, and training sessions as required, while also fulfilling other duties relevant to the office of Immediate Past-President.

ASBA Online Officer Voting Guide

On Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, all ASBA members will receive an email featuring all candidates for each position that will link to the ASBA dedicated webpage, “Online Officer Voting Guide”. The webpage will contain the comprehensive information provided by each candidate in their application.

Election of Officers

Election of officers will take place on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at the ASBA Annual Membership Meeting, which will be held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Scottsdale in conjunction with the ASBA-ASA Annual Conference. Every ASBA member district is eligible to send a delegate to cast its vote.

All eligible candidates put forth by the Nominating Committee must be present at the meeting to be elected and will have the opportunity to give a speech of up to two minutes.

Individuals may also choose to run from the floor for one of the three positions and will be given the opportunity to make a two-minute speech. No information about individuals who choose to run from the floor will be presented to members in the “ASBA Officer Voting Guide.”
