Day 12
Legislative Recap: Week 2

In committee this week, HB 2121 (schools; superintendents; severance packages; prohibition), which ASBA opposed, failed by a vote of 4-5. HCR 2005 (English language education; requirements) which repeals English-only education statutes, passed unanimously as well as SB 1139 (Classroom site fund; distribution), which ASBA supports with the adoption of the committee amendment. Unfortunately, SB 1041 (STOs; aggregate cap increase) passed through the Senate Finance committee as well. We will keep you posted as this one moves through the process how you can help!

We also want to draw your attention to HB 2315, which will be in the House Government committee on Wednesday. This bill allows school board candidates to use E-Qual to gather electronic signatures to qualify for the ballot! This is straight out of our political agenda, so please log into RTS and show your support for this important bill.

If you are a new board member, the GR team is hosting a lunch and learn webinar this Monday 1/25 from 12-1pm. We will cover the basics of how to track and understand the legislative process. There’s still time to sign up here!
