K-12 Budget Approved: Your Primary Resource on Public Education
We recognize the Governor and Legislature’s willingness to work with school districts to acknowledge quality schools and provide needed flexibility to move more dollars into all classrooms across Arizona. We remain concerned that school districts will continue to be challenged with budgetary factors entering 2016 with the two FY17 issues that were included in this budget. School districts must now prepare to be funded on current year enrollment and the loss of career and technical education funding will be devastating to satellite JTED programs. This means additional cuts for school districts with a decline in student enrollment and those offering CTE opportunities.
At the same time, we look forward to an immediate resolution to the inflation lawsuit. Correcting prior indiscretions of inflation funding puts resources directly into the hands of our students and schools, and will increase the dollars being directed into the classrooms of Arizona.
We’re encouraged by the work of the ASBA Governmental Relations Department and its advocacy partners that continue to tell our stories, encourage community involvement and provide timely information and resources. We will continue to advocate for all students in Arizona.
